Blue Vector Introduces Serialization Station for Serial Number Scanning of Pharmaceuticals

New flexible station supports drug pedigree and government reimbursement mandates

Palo Alto, Calif. - April 14, 2008 - Blue Vector Systems today announced the introduction of the Blue Vector Serialization Station. The new product, available in several form factors, is a convenient user-friendly station for scanning the serial numbers of pallets, cases, totes and items throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain. The station automatically handles the transmission of the status of each item to central pedigree systems and outside billing agencies.

The Serialization Station is available in form factors suitable for the special needs of manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. The following form factors are available:

Bullet Tabletop stations for manual packaging and inspection operations
Bullet Conveyor-mounted stations for manufacturing and distribution
Bullet Mobile cart stations for situations which require mobility and flexibility
Bullet Small footprint stations for local pharmacies

The operations supported by the station include:

Bullet Aggregation of items into cases, totes, pallets, orders, and shipments
Bullet Triggering the creation of the initial pedigree
Bullet Verification of the pedigree and completeness of incoming items
Bullet Quarantine or special handling of items
Bullet Updating the pedigree of items being shipped, and ensuring 100% shipping accuracy

Because of the diversity of tagging standards employed by manufacturers around the world, the station supports any combination of commonly used serialization technologies, including:

Bullet Linear barcodes
Bullet Two-dimensional barcodes
Bullet RFID tags, both UHF and HF types

The Serialization Station takes advantage of Blue Vector’s unique line of modular network appliances that are embedded in each station to provide the business logic, sensor control, and full real-time system integration with other enterprise applications. No matter how many stations are deployed around the world they can all be centrally monitored and configured from a central Blue Vector appliance known as the Blue Vector Global Manager, insuring continuous operation and the lowest possible total cost of ownership.

Demand for the Serialization Station has been driven by drug regulations in the United States and government reimbursement requirements in Europe and Latin America. Blue Vector’s early customers for the Serialization Station range from companies moving toward compliance with California’s future pedigree requirements by 2011 to international operations that must conform to government mandates by the end of this year.

The mobile cart version of the Serialization Station will be available for demo from April 16-18 in Blue Vector’s booth #530 at the RFID Journal Live 2008 show in Las Vegas.
